Campaign Labels Get Our Vote!

The turning of the calendar page to July means we’re in the last half of 2019. And as the weeks and months roll by, 2020 comes more closely into focus. Before you can say fireworks, we’ll be finding ourselves once again in a raucous presidential election year. Show of hands, who’s excited? Whether you’re the type who closely follows every new development on the road to Election Day, or someone who would like to veto the very existence of political TV and radio ads altogether, one thing can be counted on—it’s bound to be another interesting election year!

But in the midst of the caucuses, polls, town hall speeches, and party platforms, we can’t forget the local campaigns that take place right in our own communities. These tend to be overshadowed by the large, nation-wide attention of the presidential elections. But they are just as important! What’s more, they are a front runner for potential label sales, often beating their national level election campaigns by a landslide in terms of units sold at the local level.

Hogwash? Fake news? Absolutely not. Labels can help create buzz, allow people to show support, and generate conversations with a variety of different applications. They help to reinforce branding, and can be printed to match campaign yard signs, mailings, and advertisements. Which types of local elections stand to benefit from the use of labels? Here are just a few examples of campaigns that should add label usage to their agendas!

City Council – Driven to solve community issues?  Working to strengthen relationships with local law enforcement and emergency personnel? Pushing to save taxpayer dollars through preventive maintenance and increasing economy? Help convey community vision through the use of lapel stickers, bumper stickers, window decals, and more.

School Board—Are safe learning environments a priority? Is fiscal responsibility at the top of the list? Working toward academic growth opportunities? Employ stickers, bumper stickers, and mailing labels to help bolster public dialogue and community engagement when it comes to school board elections.

Referendum—Is a new school building being proposed? A community center, perhaps? Maybe a revitalization of city parks and public spaces? Stickers on local stores’ shopping bags and window decals can help show support to local causes.

Whether it’s a local election for county sheriff, city manager or treasurer, or any of the above, lobbying for the use of labels is a smart choice. Label Works offers a wide variety of labels that can be put to work in creative ways to support candidates and causes. Some additional ways labels can be effective on the campaign trail include:

  • “I Voted” stickers—drum up excitement for getting to the polls!
  • Window decals and bumper stickers—free advertising on doors, windows, and back bumpers!
  • Water bottle labels—hand out some much-appreciated H2O at parades, picnics, or other local get-togethers
  • Address labels for mailings—help convey logos and brand identities for a cohesive campaign plan
  • ID or nametag stickers—ovals, circles, or a customized shape using our freeform™ laser cut labels!
  • Tech decals—drum up excitement with students by handing out stickers that address issues and causes. Suggest they adhere them to laptops, smartphones, iPads, and other tech devices to spread the word!

Label Works offers low minimums starting at 100, as well as quick production time. In most cases, we can have labels in your hand in as little as 24 hours (no bribes necessary!). Encourage your customers to cast their ballots in favor of campaigns that include the use of labels. They’re guaranteed to be a winning addition to their campaign endeavors!

Perfect Print for Real Estate

Whether you’re working with a small realtor or a large company, print is an essential part of their repertoire of sales tools! Print pieces add professionalism to their office, help bring together open house events, and more. Here are our top suggestions for print pieces perfect for the real estate market.

Signage
With versatile full color print, different styles to suit different budgets, and a freestanding style that makes them easy to display in front of houses, yard signs are a classic print piece for the real estate market for a reason! Full color plastic yard signs are a lightweight and eyecatching option that your customer is sure to love. If your customer wants to make a bigger investment in their signage, on the other hand, they should consider full color metal yards signs; these durable signs are easy to reuse time and again.

Business Cards
Another business classic that real estate professionals should keep on hand is a business card. They should particularly look into including realtor photos on their business cards because it is one more way to reinforce the personal connection that realtors build with home buyers.

Folders
No matter how many homes are on a buyer’s list, it can be hard to keep their information straight. Offering them a branded folder is a great way to keep that information organized and to add a polished finishing touch to the home buying experience. Branded folders can also be used to hold paperwork, create welcome packets to be given at closing, or to hold files in the office with professional polish.

Promotional Products
Promotional products are an ideal way for your customers to get the word out about their business. Your customers in the real estate market can attach key fobs to keys at closing, give business card magnets to remind new homeowners of their realtor’s contact information, and hand out a variety of other promotional products at community events to connect with new buyers. They can also create personalized napkins perfect for adding a branded touch to any refreshments offered at an open house.

Labels
In addition to more traditional uses like address labels and name labels, labels are also a popular addition to open house events. Use labels to personalize water bottles at the refreshment table, seal paperwork, and more.

And this only scratches the surface of what print can do for the real estate market. Want more ideas? Consider requesting a copy of our property management vertical market kit for your next sales meeting!

Make the Grade with School and Educational Labels

As summer approached and another school year came to an end, Ms. Claire Gilman felt it was time to breathe some new life into her 5th grade classroom. The school was repainting classrooms, which would certainly freshen things up. With things pulled apart to paint, Ms. Gilman knew it was the perfect opportunity to implement some ideas she had been considering for some time. She had wonderful plans for the reading nook in her room. She had also begun to collect some creative additions for the art supply storage. New colors, new shelving, and some new technology were just the beginning to Ms. Gilman’s new and improved 5th grade room!

As the project progressed, Ms. Gilman looked for ways she could best keep art supplies organized on the new shelves. She ordered some custom industrial strength labels that would adhere nicely to the shelves. Voila! Everything was clearly labeled and would stay neatly in the right spot! The students would have no problem finding what they were looking for. When the school’s technology liaison delivered new Chromebooks to her classroom, she noticed each device was labeled on the bottom with a barcode tracking label, an official ID label, and another label offering contact information for tech support. Hmmmmm, she wondered. Could she use labels on the top of the laptops to help the students? She ordered colorful labels instructing students how to log on to the school’s server, as well as cheerful labels that reminded students of safe internet use practices. For fun, she also ordered custom-shaped tech labels in the form of the school’s mascot paw print. She placed them on the closed top of the laptops. “Nothing like a little school spirit to brighten up these black devices!” she thought as she finished placing the labels.

What other ways could she use labels to help her in the classroom, she wondered. Over lunch that day with Mr. Frank, the kindergarten teacher, and Mrs. Horner, the administrative assistant, Ms. Gilman shared her label endeavor. Mrs. Horner piped up to add that the office, too, was utilizing labels and stickers for the upcoming school year. “I just ordered visitor badges, as well a parking permit labels for our cars, accreditation seals for official documents, and mailing labels with our school mascot. I also helped our librarian order new labels for our books and music, as well as custom school spirit labels that affix to water bottles for the back to school barbecue!” Mr. Frank reported that his kindergarteners would be excited to see themed sticker sheets throughout the year, keyboard tech decals to help them learn to type, and Elmwood Elementary Wildcats bumper stickers for moms and dads, which would be handed out during School Spirit Week.

The dedicated teachers and staff at Elmwood Elementary aren’t the only ones who regularly put educational labels to work. Preschools, high schools, colleges, and even tech and trade schools rely on labels to perform a myriad of different jobs. School property ID labels, contact info labels, parking permits, window decals, and even fun locker stickers are just some of the many uses for labels in the school and university setting.

Label Works’ new tech decals are a wonderful way to keep your school’s colors and motto front and center, 24/7! These affix to laptops, computers, tablets, keyboards, and even cell phones. They are available in individual sheets, making them perfect to hand out to students and parents, and free gloss lamination is included. That’s an A+ school spirit win! Convenient removable adhesive ensures easy removal without sticky residue.

We offer a wonderful selection of various shapes and stocks in our 24 Hour FasTurn® labels. We also offer our freeform™ laser-cut labels, available in any shape you can imagine. No matter how unique the mascot might be, Label Works can create the perfect label!

Privately Labeled Food and Beverage Items

In the 1980s, grocery shoppers had two big choices to make while filling their carts. Would they choose tried and true name brand items that were sold in highly attractive packaging and familiar to consumers by their television, radio, and print ads? Or would they choose generic “off brands,” as they were often called, which were sold in plain white packaging with simple black lettering? The two choices pitted a consumer’s aesthetic inclinations against their budgetary sensibilities. Oh, what a dilemma!

Generic products simply listed the item’s name  (“Cola”), the ingredients, nutritional information, and UPC bar code. They were devoid of logos, photos and illustrations, and any sort of descriptive words that might entice shoppers. They also lacked expensive celebrity endorsements and pricey promotions. The idea was the marketing savings could be passed on to the consumer in the form of a less expensive product. Yes, they might not have the catchy advertising jingles, slogans, and colorful packaging that the name brands took great pains to perfect, but for budget-conscious ‘80s shoppers, it became an acceptable trade-off.

But how did the products taste and perform? Many believed generics were name brand factory seconds that lacked taste and nutritional value. Ironically, generics were often processed at the very same plants where their name brand counterparts were created. Blindfold taste tests regularly resulted in people not being able to tell the difference between the two. So why bother with the fancy labels? And just who was choosing to spend more on products sold with name brand packaging when the same was offered for less in stark white and black boxes and bottles? Did elves or talking toucans make a product taste better, after all? Was a product more trustworthy if a famous baseball player was peddling it?

By 1984, retail chains realized that the savings of printing labels was minimal. That realization paired well with another thought. Perhaps the name brand loyalists were convinced the pretty packaging ensured a superior product? A new idea began to brew. What if these retailers packaged products produced by name brand manufacturers with their own house/store brand names? What if they ditched the simple black and white and created packaging every bit as fancy as the name brands? They could still sell these products at a lesser cost than name brands by foregoing the marketing and advertising expenses.

A new era was born. Since those early days, privately labeled goods have blossomed into a respectable alternative to name brands, and are often sold in attractive packaging that rivals their famous name brand counterparts they share shelf space with. Just as pretty, but less expensive. Consumers can’t get enough!

Today, privately labeled items are sold in a wide spectrum of products, and in a large variety of settings. Grocery store chains sell just about every kind of boxed, canned, bottled, or bagged item bearing their very own private label brand. Restaurants, delis, coffee shops, boutiques, and many other retailers sell privately labeled products. Shampoo, salad dressings, cereal, canned vegetables, cooking oil, crackers, coffee syrups, chicken wing sauce… the list goes on and on!

The market for private labels continues to grow. In 2014, a Consumers Reports study showed that 93 percent of American women surveyed choose store brands on a regular basis to save money. That same year, private label sales grew 2.5%, while national brands grew only 1.1%. Consumers report they see virtually no difference between the private labels they’re buying and the national brands they’ve given up.

So what does this all mean for label manufacturers? A great deal, actually! Many privately labeled products are produced in smaller batches. Think of a family-run restaurant selling bottles of barbecue sauce, the local steak house with various spices and marinades for sale, or an eye clinic selling bottles of lens cleaner bearing their name. All of these products require labels or packaging. Consumers rely on these labels to inform them of the contents of the bottle, box, or container. What is contained inside? What is the weight or volume of the product inside the package?

In addition to informing consumers about the contents, privately labeled food and beverage labels also carry the oh-so-important Nutrition Facts information as well as ingredient lists. For many, what’s on the back of the label is just as important as what’s on the front! An ever-increasing consciousness about nutritional intake has Americans far and wide “checking the label” and shopping according to what’s listed.

At Label Works, we take great pride in offering enhancements which will help win shoppers and browsers by allowing for truly unique food and beverage labels.

Some of our available options include:

Labels Play A Critical Role The Healthcare Industry—No Second Opinion Needed!

Thoughts of hospital and medical supplies might conjure up images of a healthy amount of bandages, swabs, and tongue depressors, as well as linen storage with an unending supply of unflattering hospital gowns. But it takes much, much more than cotton balls and ill-fitting gowns to make a medical care facility run well. Along with all the medications, monitors, medical devices and paperwork, labels play an integral role in the smooth and safe operation of a hospital, clinic, or other healthcare facility. Before you request a second opinion on that, let’s take a look at some of the ways labels are put to work in the healthcare setting.

Patient identification and charting labels immediately pop to mind when discussing medical labels. These play a vital role in safety and organization. Whether affixed to conventional paper charts, applied to lab orders, or adhered to patient wristbands, patient ID labels provide clear, concise information that is easy to read and won’t fall victim to spills or daily wear and tear.

Prescription alerts and allergy notification labels are just as important in the healthcare setting, and can be found on charts, wristbands, and prescription bottles. Thermal or direct transfer stocks facilitate easy printing of patient information on site. These labels work wonders at keeping things moving in an efficient and quick manner. Emergency rooms are no place for ink cartridge crises!

Equipment identification labels assure that medical equipment can be returned to the proper department, and can also document proof that each device is serviced regularly. Operating instructions or caution labels affixed to hospital beds, IV pumps, and other machinery and medical equipment ensure proper usage and minimize the risk of accidents or injury.

For younger patients, what would a trip to the doctor or hospital be without some fun stickers? Sticker sheets are a phenomenal way to keep little ones’ imaginations engaged while in an unfamiliar environment that might be a bit scary. Medical-themed sticker sheets can even serve as a helpful tool to introduce children to some basic concepts of the healthcare world. Dressing up teddy in a lab coat and stethoscope can help allay some fears or anxiety children may be experiencing. These sticker sets also transition beautifully to promotional or community event giveaways, as they can be customized with the name and address of healthcare facilities. Parades, blood drives and health fairs are the perfect spots to hand out some fun healthcare-themed stickers sporting logos and branding – high interest, yet low sugar!

Other popular uses include:

  • Hospital visitor passes
  • Tamper-evident stickers for lab specimens
  • Lab communication labels (Refrigerate, STAT, Serum, etc.)
  • IV labels
  • Maintenance inspection record labels
  • “Sterile” labels
  • Allergy notifications
  • Prescription bottle instructions or warnings
  • “I Got My Flu Shot!” stickers

Additional options that are vital in hospitals and clinics include:

  • Thermal or Direct Transfer Stocks: Print patient information on site
  • Tamper Evident Stocks: Crucial for prescriptions and medications
  • Barcoding & Consecutive Numbering: A must-have for equipment and patient identification
  • Durable Stocks and Finishes: Perfect for abrasive and harsh environments, bleach and industrial medical cleaners won’t damage these hard-working stocks and finishes!

Medical and healthcare industry labels improve the internal processes of healthcare facilities and enhance the care and experience of patients. Whether it’s a fire engine red warning sticker on equipment or medicines, or a smiling teddy bear sticker, hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes are home to many, many labels and stickers. Trust Label Works to meet the needs of your clients and customers. Contact our customer service department today at 800.522.3558 or customercare@labelworks.com to learn more about our medical and healthcare label options.

Rising Demand for More Eco-Friendly and Sustainable Labels

Every year, the world produces 1.3 billion tons of waste. That’s a staggering amount, especially when you consider that from 2017-2018, the world produced 745.8 million tons of wheat and 479.8 million tons of rice. As a planet, we produce more garbage than we do wheat and rice combined. Holy landfill! By the year 2100, projections indicate yearly waste generation could reach 4 billion tons. That’s enough garbage to fill Busch Stadium from top to bottom four times a day. It makes one wonder if we won’t be living in space by then to escape all the garbage!

To put things bluntly, we have a garbage crisis on our hands here on the blue and green planet. And every small piece of refuse adds to the landfill plight. Recycling and reduction in waste have become paramount. Sustainability of the planet depends upon coming up with innovative ways to reduce the amount of garbage being sent to landfills. Labels are no exception to this endeavor. Consider the vast number of labels on bottles, cans, boxes, and other disposable products. Label backers contribute to the landfill problem, as does material waste from the creation of label stock. Are we destined to become one large landfill divided by ocean water?

Luckily, there are a growing number of green options today for labels and packaging. All of these options help reduce the impact on our planet, while helping boost sustainability. The job of protecting our planet doesn’t fall squarely on the shoulders of environmentalists. Consumers are looking for options that are eco-friendly and promote sustainability. Curious about label options for eco-conscious companies? Read on.

First, it’s important to consider where the packaging and labels will ultimately end up. Landfills? Compost bins? Recycled? Different stocks and/or adhesives can be chosen depending on the ultimate destination of the packaging and label. For biodegradable packaging, it only makes sense to select a biodegradable label as well. Compostable adhesive labels work well on packaging that is certified compostable. One toss into the compost bin – label and all! These types of labels are becoming more prevalent as the interest in composting rises and the tide slowly turns from single-use plastics.

Earth-minded companies that are committed to using packaging that is recycled are often interested in labels that are the same. Recyclable adhesive labels can be recycled right along with the packaging, and do not have to be removed. This cuts cost, work, and helps drive home branding messages that speak of commitment to recycling.

Newer practices in production allow labels to be created using a reduced amount of materials. Again this help cut waste, which reduces the manufacturing impact on the environment.

At Label Works, we’re committed to broadening our eco-friendly and sustainable label and adhesive options. This includes choosing stocks that come from well-managed forests. This provides environmental, social, and economic benefits. And this doesn’t mean just one or two options. These stocks are all FSC® certified stocks that are smartly sourced with our planet in mind:

  • White Gloss
  • White EDP
  • White Matte Removable
  • White Laser
  • White Laser Removable
  • Direct Thermal
  • White Semi-Gloss
  • 100% Recycled – Produced with 100% Post-Consumer Waste
  • 30% Recycled Semi-Gloss – Produced with 30% Post-Consumer Waste

We also have recycling-compatible adhesives on stocks:

  • 100% Recycled – Meets the TLMI testing protocol RCA LRP 2v5 for recycling compatibility

Offering sustainable label options isn’t where we stop, however. At Label Works, we recycle all cardboard, paper, plastics, and liner waste facility-wide. Our liner waste is shipped to a recycling facility where it is shredded and then burned as fuel at a local facility rather than taking up permanent residence in a landfill.

Want to learn more about ways in which labels have evolved to become more earth-friendly? Contact Label Works to discuss label options that are eco-conscious, while being as impactful as ever.

Added Professional Print Touches for the New Year

Whether your customer is updating their existing print order or creating something entirely new, the New Year is a good time for them to add a bit of extra polish and professionalism to their suite of stationery products. How can they do that? Here are our four tips.

1. Coordinate
Nothing says “You are in good hands” quite like a well-put-together appearance. From employee dress to consistent signage, your customer has probably considered this already, but they might not have considered the importance of coordinating their image across their print pieces, too.

That doesn’t mean that everything has to match exactly, though. The design they print on white letterhead for everyday use, for example, could feel more stately on an ivory stock. And speaking of ways to make designs feel consistent without making them match exactly…

2. Let Brand Colors Take Center Stage
Whether or not your customer wants to put their logo on a given print piece, using their brand colors for every piece is a good way to make every print piece they use feel like a cohesive whole. For some pieces your customer could highlight their logo, but others could simply feature that logo’s colors to create a different look that still connects back to their brand.

3. Don’t Be Afraid to Get Creative
Sometimes changing things up is a great way to pull together a more creative set of print pieces. Does your customer have an abstract or geometric logo? Consider printing it very light across their letterhead for the look of a watermark or letting it extend beyond the cut edge of their business card for a creative accent. Does your customer usually use their logo as the central design in their print—except in one photo-heavy brochure? Consider using that logo as an accent or highlighting it on the back of the brochure alongside your customer’s contact information.

This creativity doesn’t just add visual interest—it allows your customer to be more flexible with their print pieces. After all, with a little bit of flexibility in their brand look, they can create a wider variety of designs for their print.

4. Consider Texture
One way to bring together your customer’s print pieces with style is to use only one or two stock textures throughout their print order. Using the same stock to unify your customer’s business cards, letterhead, and stationery envelopes is a great way to give everything a consistent feel.

And, for additional polish, Navitor offers CLASSIC® Linen and Laid Papers. Not only do these stocks provide a subtle texture that will add a touch of elegant appeal, but the CLASSIC® brand is one that your customers can rely on. Choose linen papers for a cloth-like texture and laid for a handcrafted feel. To learn more about these stock textures, check out the Neenah website for more information on CLASSIC® Linen and CLASSIC® Laid.

How do you help your customers create a polished print order? Do you help them coordinate their print pieces? We’d love to see your tips in the comments below.

Label Works Receives Premier Print Award, Certificate of Merit

Label Works PIA Award

Recently, The Premier Print Awards, presented by Printing Industries of America (PIA), were announced with Label Works winning a Premier Print Award – Certificate of Merit in the Special Innovations category for our Warehouse Winery label.

Creating eye-catching labels for customers is a source of pride for Label Works. When Warehouse Winery requested a distinctive look for their labels, the Label Works team knew that full color printing using Color-Logic’s Process Metallic Color System was the perfect combination. With Label Works being one of only three certified label printers in the United States to offer Color-Logic, Warehouse Winery’s labels would truly stand out as Color-Logic label printing is extremely limited in today’s market.

Color-Logic Partner

The Color-Logic system allows printers to create up to 250 different metallic colors in a single print run along with different effects such as gradations, watermarks and dimension; when applied to labels, the system allows customers to have a unique looking label printed without the expensive costs for foils, embossing or dies for different shapes. Traditionally, printing with metallic inks or trying to create a metallic effect with two or more colors is difficult; with Color-Logic, the Label Works’ designer manipulated portions of Warehouse Winery’s design to incorporate metallic effects while allowing the rest of the label to print as a traditional full color label. During this process, Label Works created several different designs for the customer to review using a variety of the effects offered through Color-Logic so the customer could choose the appearance that most appropriately displayed their ideas.

The label was printed digitally on an HP Indigo 4500 with the Color-Logic Enhancements; the final printing included four color process plus white ink and a matte UV Varnish on silver stock.

Label Works - Wine Warehouse

Against the matte finish, the Color-Logic effects pop: the metallic red of the “No. 10”, the metallic blue for “Warehouse Winery”, the green and purple seal on the lower right side and the raven holding a cluster of grapes to the left of the “10.” With Color-Logic, Warehouse Winery could add the effect of having the bottom of the “10” appear with a metallic effect while not interfering with the wine type “Frontenac Merlot” in dark blue below it.

For more information on how Color-Logic can help create eye-catching labels for you, contact Label Works today!
